Festive Update

Saturday, 2nd November

Captains Drive-In

Cat and Ulrich would like to thank everyone who came to support them at the Captains’ Drive-In and Florida Scramble.

We had 21 teams taking part in the Florida Scramble, with the winners being Gary Bamford, Bhaven Patel, Dhiren Patel and Niall Wynne (with a score of 55).

In second place, on countback were Simon Hooper, Matthew Jones, Jake Rowe and Shivantha Thambirajah (with a score of 57).  And in third place (also with 57) and just missing out on countback, were Jane van Egmond, Ed van Egmond, David Palmer and Frankie Palmer.

After the golf, we moved on to the Captains’ DriveIn. Ann Whittaker correctly guessed Ulrich’s drive at 171 yards, and Jane Northeast guessed Cat’s drive at 158 yards. Well done to Ann and Jane.

Thank you all for helping raise £163.50 for our charity, The Princess Alice Hospice.

Wednesday, 5th November

Roy Lambdin Memorial Trophy

It was a lovely day for the 12 teams who took part in the Roy Lambdin Florida Scramble. There were some great scores, and the winners were Kevin Conlon, Stephen Harrison and John Pearson (with a score of 55).

In second place (with 57), were Sue Choularton, Harry Bartley, Phil Crowhurst and Dean Rogers.  And in third place were Ian Adams, Vern Crittenden, Martin Durham and Tim Smith (with a score of 58).

Thank you to everyone who took part and supported the event. We raised £300.00 on the day, which was generously matched by a further £300.00 from Nick Bailey, giving us a fantastic total of £600.00 for The Royal Marsden Hospital in memory of Roy.

Ladies’ Post-Round Get Together

On the first Saturday after the Drive-In, the Ladies met up in the 1903 Lounge after our round to catch up and enjoy a glass of prosecco. It was great fun and the perfect way to start the year.

Welcome Salver Eclectic winner

Congratulations to Jenny Tracey, who has won the Welcome Salver for the second year in a row. A great achievement!

Saturday, 15th November

Texas Scramble

We had 18 teams taking part in the Texas Scramble. Everyone hit just one shot each before the fog rolled in, leaving many waiting on the fairway for an hour until it eventually cleared!

The winners were Kinga Nemes, Jonathan Deverill, Ben Klinger and Keith Stinson (with a score of 53).

With four teams finishing with a score of 54, second place - on countback - went to Alistair Aird, Joe McHugh, Kalim Nixon and Nick Pratt, and in third place were David Arrow, George Ashwell, Jack Law and Alex Rhodes.

Wednesday, 3rd December

Ladies’ Christmas Competition and Lunch

We could not have asked for better weather for our Christmas Competition. Twelve of us played on the day, with 20 joining afterwards for lunch.

Congratulations to JJ (Jane Jones), winner of the Christmas-Themed Animal Competition, who had first pick from the Secret Santa gifts. Thanks everyone for a festive and fun packed day!

Sunday, 7th December

Yuletide

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Yuletide Event. With more than 80 golfers taking part, it was fantastic to see such strong support out on the course. The festive breakfast beforehand proved to be a real hit with all the golfers! It was a great day and a lovely way to kick off the festive season.

Congratulations to Ian Owen, who won a very close competition, with an excellent score of 42 points.  In fact, the top three players were separated by just two points. Second place went to Max Delahunty-James with 41 points, and Willy Hughes finished third with 40 points.

Our top Lady Golfer was Jane van Egmond, finishing two points clear of last years winner, Jane Northeast, who came second.

Wednesday, 10th December

Vets’ Christmas Lunch Greensomes

This year’s competition was played in perfect conditions on a bright, sunny winter’s day. We had 18 teams taking part, with the winners being Christopher Lawler and Graham Wood (with a score of 41 points). In second place, on countback were John Pearson and Tim Smith (also with a score of 41 points).

Another highlight of the day was Julian Martin acing his tee shot on the 2nd hole for an incredible holeinone.

The golf was followed by a lovely Christmas lunch enjoyed by all who attended.

A big thank you goes to the Vets who, through their generosity, made a £300.00 donation to our charity.

Saturday, 13th December

Christmas Pudding Competition

With another day of perfect weather, the Mixed Christmas Pudding Competition took place on Saturday 13th December. It was a Texas Scramble with a 10am shotgun start.

It was great to see so many members this year getting into the festive spirit and making the effort to dress up. The patio was quite a sight before we went out, with festive wear ranging from Christmas sweaters and Christmas pudding hats through to an angel, a penguin, snowmen, a Christmas tree and Father Christmas himself!

We had an impressive field of 89 members taking part. Team handicaps were worked out at 25%, 20%, 15% and 10% from the lowest to highest playing handicap, with standard Texas Scramble Rules in play. The prizes on the day were fantastic festive Christmas Hampers, packed with a range of goodies.

The winners (with a score of 53), were Alex Conlon, Stephen Conlon, Mark Newton and Frankie Palmer. In second place (with a score of 54), were Alistair Aird, Leo Coldman, Joe McHugh and Nick Pratt and in third place were Bradley Halford, Simon Hooper, Matthew Jones and Shivantha Thambirajah (with a score of 55).

The Best Dressed Festive Team Award went to Jane van Egmond, Ed van Egmond, Neale Higgs and Ben Klinger - otherwise known as the Angel, Penguin and Snowmen!

A special mention to our Vice-Captains, JJ and Simon who, not only had great outfits, but stayed in full costume throughout the round and the rest of the day – a great effort!

After the round, many of us enjoyed a festive glass of mulled wine in the clubhouse, laid on courtesy of the Members’ Fund. Thank you to everyone who made it such a festive and memorable day!
