Sunday, 13th to Monday, 14th September – Men’s Away Weekend

Ian Larter's first-ever hole in one, on the par 3 15th during Monday's round, was the talking point of this year's Captain's Away weekend at the Oxfordshire Golf Club on 13–14 September. Thirty-six golfers took part over two rounds, and all of them praised the quality and challenge presented by the course. Ian celebrated, as is customary, by buying some welcome drinks in the clubhouse before the prize giving. Well done Ian, and thanks for the drinks!

In addition to the golf, it was a very enjoyable social event. The Sunday dinner was enlivened by the expert fining skills of Tim Smith and Simon Jones, whose rulings were never questioned, with fines dished out for anything golf-related (and, in some cases, not). Thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended, this helped raise a large amount of money for the Captains' Charity, Princess Alice Hospice.

The overall winner of the weekend was Vince Corner with 75 points. John Davidson finished second with 74, and Ray Irwin took third place with 73.

A big thank you from me to everyone who attended and supported the weekend. We are all already looking forward to next year's trip.
