Congratulations to Jane and Steve Northeast

At the beginning of June, a yearly, national fire service competition called the Sheriff's Cup took place at Wynyard Golf Club in County Durham.

The team of four who qualified to represent Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, consisted of three retired firefighters (two of which are members of The Leatherhead Club), Steve Northeast, Jane Northeast and Glynn Morgan and one serving firefighter from Leatherhead Fire Station, Tom Evans.

Surrey have competed in the competition for many years against stiff opposition and have never been successful, until this year!

Day one was the pairs competition and Steve and Jane posted a 6 under par round and Glynn and Tom just one over par.

Day two was the singles competition and all four posted nett 70's, beating Staffordshire Fire Service by just one shot! The Sheriff's Cup was presented by the Sheriff of London for the first time back in 1960 and this year was the first time Surrey has won it in its 64 year history!

Ladies Championship weekend success

The last weekend of June Leatherhead held their championships with the course set up for the challenge.

The Ladies Club Champion for 2024 is Jane Northeast with Jasmine Kim winning the Silver nett, Lorna Dolinska winning the Bronze gross and Jane van Egmond the Bronze nett.

Club Championships 2024

The last weekend in June saw the Men’s and ladies club Championships.

In the Men’s championship it was a highly competitive weekend with each division being hotly contested with the gold group going to a play off!

The Bronze division was won by Steve O’Hara 2 shots ahead of Tim Smith.

The Silver division was won by Jason Senior 9 shots ahead of any of his rivals.

The Gold Division was won in a play off by last year’s Captain Steve Northeast from Rob Cooke.

Thank you to everyone for competing over the 2 days. Thanks also to Eric and the catering staff for all the great food they prepared over the weekend, the bar staff for working diligently is keeping us refreshed, Gavin and the Green keepers for preparing the course in such a great way, Charlie for setting out the tees and the Greens and making it a true test of golf and Vernon for all his hard work is setting up the competition and working out results etc so promptly.

A great weekend was had by all!
