For the fifth time in a row, Leatherhead's Pearson team ladies have reached the knockout stages of the Surrey inter-club event. They topped their league table after a great 5 v 2 win away at Bramley on Wednesday.
Their progress in this year's competition, in which 62 clubs played their first matches back in October, had depended on a result in their table being played elsewhere on the same day. It was a nervy few hours after the Bramley win before Pearson captain Jane Northeast learned that Walton Heath had beaten Dulwich & Sydenham at home by a tight 4 v 3 score. We owe the Walton Heath captain a drink for winning on the 22nd hole!
That result meant both Leatherhead and Dulwich & Sydenham had won five out of their six matches, but Leatherhead went through having won 27 games in their six matches compared with Dulwich's 23 games.
The Pearson team now face home and away ties against Worplesdon, who were beaten semi-finalists in last year's Surrey Cup finals day. The matches need to be played by April 14th.
