Farewell and welcome at the AGM

Steve Northeast and Sue Choularton would like to thank everyone who welcomed them so warmly to their respective captaincy years after their election during Saturday's AGM.

While the formalities of the event will be recorded in the minutes, it was great to see so many people support outgoing captains Lorna Dolinska and Ian Larter as well as give their backing to the new captains.

The day started with a shotgun start and nearly 100 golfers competing in the annual Trophy Winners' Trophy competition. Winner Andrew Coom, who scored an impressive 43pts, was presented with his trophy during the AGM. He was two shots ahead of Jane Northeast's 40pts.

Steve and Sue's first event is a Texas Scramble, another 9am shotgun start, on Sunday November 6. You can sign up via the Pro Shop, if you have trouble using Club V1. There's prizes to the winning teams, followed by the Captains' Drive In and then a curry (you must opt-out of the food if you can't stay to eat). Please support your new captains if you can.

Jack and Ronan packing their bags for Portugal!

An impressive 45pts in the Titleist FootJoy Matchplay Regional Final at Pyrford Lakes has seen Jack Law and Ronan McDermott win a place at the prestigious Grand Final in Portugal in January.

Jack and Ronan were second on countback to a duo from Crowborough Beacon, who also scored 45pts. But the top four pairs all qualified for a place at Vale do Lobo Golf & Beach Resort on the Algarve.

They will play a practice round and three competitive rounds on the Ocean and Royal Courses from January 3-7, competing against 43 other pairs for the Titleist FootJoy Matchplay Championship title. Good luck to Jack and Ronan!

Letherhed Cup Matchplay Challenge

The Letherhed Cup - an annual matchplay event between a team made up of the committee and past captains against a members' team - was won by the committee and past captains on Sunday.

The team, captained by President Nick Taylor, beat their rivals from the members' team, under the stewardship of Glenn Sturgess, by an impressive score of 7.5 to 4.5.

A great day was had by all, helped by a day of favourable October weather and breakfast at Moira's - courtesy of Nick Taylor and Club Captain Ian Larter. Covid restrictions meant the long-running competition was last held in 2019, when the members were the victors.
