Christmas Pudding Competition

Thankfully, after Storm Darragh trying its best to put paid to the Christmas Yuletide event the previous Sunday but failed, we held the Mixed Christmas Pudd (Texas Scramble - Shotgun) on Saturday 14th December.

With a strong full field of 88 members taking part, it was great to see so many new faces taking part this year.

The handicaps being based on (25%/20%/15%/10% from lower to higher playing handicap) and standard Texas Scramble rules.

The winners with a score of 51 were Bradley Halford, Simon Hooper, Matthew Jones, Shivantha Thambirajah.

Second place with a score of 55 went to Tade Akinbiyi, Ben King, Kieran Manser, Colin Solly.

Third place with a score of 56 went to John Allchurch, Paul Cooper, Dan Mansfield, Robert Russell.

Thanks go to Tim Smith (Competitions secretary) for continuing to update the teams during the week and Camilla Mott (Lady Captain) for arranging the prizes.

Our thanks also go out to all those who provided raffle prizes for the Captains Charities and all who took part and hopefully enjoyed themselves. It was great to see a full clubhouse after the event.

Presentation to Grace Dear Trust

As my final act as last year’s Club Captain, it gave me great please to present Graham Dear from the Grace Dear Trust with a cheque for £5,000 raised last year at this year’s Christmas Pudding Texas Scramble.

Graham said a few words and thanked the members and said that the money would be going to Chessington Community college to fund a counsellor once a week for the children. I would also like to thank all the members for their generosity and support in raising this money.

Now let give our full support to this year Captains and raise a load more money.

Cheers, Tim Smith

Vets Christmas Lunch

Ten teams (40 vets) limbered up and after the obligatory Miguel Angel Jimenez stretches took part in a fun wave competition before the all-important Vets Christmas Lunch!

The competition was won by Chris Lawler, Alan Williams, Ian Adams & Graham Wood with 88 points, Second place was Alistar Watson, Mervyn Wynyard, Steve O'Hara and Ed Van Egmond with 85 points and third place was Roger Singleton, Brian Rafferty, Kevin Conlon & Matthew Bush on 84 points.

A special mention to Ed Van Egmond for another hole in one this year on the 15th.

As the Club Captain I just wanted to thank Raff (Brian Rafferty - outgoing Vets Captain) for putting on a fantastic Vets Christmas Lunch event. It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves after the golf at the lunch with some friendly banter. The Vets round up for the year was well received with numerous prizes provided by Raff and great to see the Trophy's won during the year. Well done and hopefully another good year for the Vets in 2025.

Merry Christmas to all from Keith Stinson - Club Captain.

Yuletide

The club Captain’s would like to thank everyone who supported the club in the Yuletide event either by playing, attending the lunch or both.

It was very much touch and go due to the prior weeks rain and Storm Darragh whether the event would go ahead but thanks to the Green Staff, we were able to play. Sadly the weather had reduced the field, but thirty six golfers then headed out to take part. Hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves.

Well done to Neale Higgs with 35 points and winning on countback (top 5 all having 35 points), second place was Simon Hooper and third place Steve Northeast.

The top lady golfer was Jane Northeast with the top four ladies separated by 2 points.
