Yuletide

Fifty nine festively dressed golfers took part in the Annual Yuletide mixed stableford competition in glorious weather for the time of year. The course was in great condition and is a credit to the course manager and his green staff.

The overall competition was won by Sylvia Kempsall with 38 points with the second best placed lady being Jane Van Egmond with 33 points. Tony Leslie won the Men’s sections with 37 points, Charlie Hwang was second with 36 points and Nealle Higgs was third (on countback) with 35 points.

There were prizes also awarded for 2’s on the day and these went to: Ed van Egmond, Jane Van Egmond, Tony Leslie and Alex Rhodes.

A huge thank you to everyone who brought a prize and bought raffle tickets. The raffle raised £375.00 for the Captains Charities.

Thirty six members then tucked into the Yuletide lunch where Keith Stinson was awarded the prize for the best festive dressed golfer.

Jenny and I would like to thank you all again for your support and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Vets Christmas Lunch

Twenty eight (14 pairs) bold and intrepid golfers took part in a fun greensomes competition before the all-important Vets Christmas Lunch! The competition was won by Malcom Wakerley and Steve Harcus with 39 points, with Ulrich Vosloo and Colin Whitaker a very creditable second with 36 points followed by in third Place (on countback) Chris Curtis and David Rowling with 35 points .

There then following a very noisy and wine filled lunch attended by 32 Vets. Nick Taylor was presented at the lunch with The Vets Knockout Trophy (pictured) which he won in a very hard-fought match with Dave Sparkes.

The lunch ended with the usual joke telling session with the winning joke told by Malcolm Walker in his best West Country Accent earning himself a bottle of scotch. The Vets captaincy reins were then handed over to next years Captain Brian (Raff) Rafferty.

Merry Christmas to all from Tim Smith departing Vets Captain!

Paul Lowe

Following the sad passing of Paul Lowe last month, a big thank you to all the members for their kind and generous donations to honour Paul and I am please to inform the members that we raised £400 to donate to the Royal Marsden in Paul’s memory. Our thoughts are very much with the family at this time.

 Tim Smith, Club Captain.
