The Northeasts reach the final of the Sunningdale Heath Fleming Winter Foursomes!

Congratulations to Jane and Steve Northeast who have made it through to the final of the Sunningdale Heath Fleming Foursomes.

This used to be a very prestigious mixed event with a past winner being Bernhard Gallagher in 1985-86, and 1987-88.

Jane partnered Michael Lowe (as the club professional) in the competition last year but sadly, due to baby Theo arriving and work commitments, had to withdraw having reached the quarter finals. Jane and Michael entered this year but, again, due to work commitments Michael dropped out before round 1 and Steve naturally stepped into the breach!

On their way to the final they have beaten three club professionals and their partners from The Buckinghamshire, Sunningdale Heath (winners of many previous occasions!) and East Berkshire.

Also in this year’s draw were PGA pro Luke Willett (speed golfer, known as the Iron Golfer) and Di Dougherty (Nick Dougherty’s wife).

We wish Jane and Steve all the best for the final which is to be played by 30th April and details of the actual date when they are playing will be posted here!

Ladies' Centenary Bowl Success

Well done to the Ladies' Centenary Bowl team who are through to the first round of this year's knockout competition with a win against Woking. After beating them at Woking with a great 4-1 score, they completed their preliminary round victory with a home win in wet conditions on Sunday.

The Centenary Bowl is a Surrey matchplay KO with five-member teams, leading to an October final. All players must have a WHI of 10.0 or above, but the matches are played off scratch.

As Leatherhead has a relatively small ladies' section it's a real achievement to beat bigger clubs, but our team won the Centenary Bowl in 2018 and have started this year's competition on a high. We await news on our next opponents, with the home and away matches due to be played by May 14th.

Unbeaten Vets top the M4 league table!

Having beaten Ashford Manor 3-1 away last week, the team played at Sutton Green today where conditions were windy, wet and muddy underfoot. Despite the conditions, the team managed to win the match 3.5 - 0.5. This result extends our lead at the top of the table and means that we will play our knockout match in the last 16 at home. With just one match between Sutton Green and Milford to go, the table is as follows:

Leatherhead 18 points (out of a possible maximum of 20)
Mill Ride 13.5
Sutton Green 7
Ashford Manor 4
Milford 3

Well done and thank you to everyone who has played in the eight matches in our division of the league. We now wait for the draw on the 31st March to find out who we play in the first round of the knock out phase of the competition.

Donate your used stamps for charity

If you happen to have any used postage stamps, a collection is being made in aid of charity. Or please start collecting them from now, to add to the growing pile. The collection box is in the ladies' locker room, and if any men wish to donate their used stamps just give them to Sue Choularton. Your support would be much appreciated.

The Tee House is getting a new look

Members said a fond farewell to the Tee House as we know it at the end of February. Moira is pictured here with Kinga Nemes and Jenny Tracey as they enjoy their snack at the halfway hut. The Tee House is currently undergoing a full refurbishment by the club.

Buy a season ticket for the charity bunkers

Next time you are on the 18th tee, take care not to go in any of the bunkers, or else you will be invited to make a donation at the bar to the captains' charities! New signs have been installed on the tee to warn members and visitors they are on the 'Charity Hole'.

Alternatively you can buy a £10 season ticket to enable you to go in the 18th bunkers as often as you like. It will be a cash only payment to buy your season ticket from captains Steve and Sue. All proceeds will go to the captains' charities.

The Vets secured their place in the knockout stages of the M4 League with a fine away win 3.5 – 0.5 at Mill Ride on Thursday 2nd March. We also beat Ashford Manor 4-0 at home the previous week. We are now top of the table with two matches to go. Congratulations to captain Chris Lawler and the whole squad.
